It's My Life ("the app") is a personal life-story service created and maintained by Vernon Anderson ("I," "me," or "my"). These Terms are the agreement between you and me for using the app. By creating an account or using It's My Life, you agree to these Terms.
Who may use It's My Life
You must be 18 years of age or older to create an account and use the app.
Your account
You create an account using your email address. You're responsible for keeping your password secure and for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has gained access to your account, email me at support@my-life-story.life right away. Do not share your login, and do not create an account for someone else without their permission. Unpaid accounts will be removed automatically after 24 hours.
Your content is yours
To run and maintain the app, you give me permission to store, display, and back up your content only as needed to provide the service to you and the people you share it with. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account. I will never sell your content, use it in advertising, or use it to train AI models.
Your responsibility for what you add
You're responsible for the content you add. By adding it, you confirm that it's yours, or you have permission to use it, and that it doesn't break the law or violate someone else's rights. Because It's My Life is often used for family history, you may add content about other people; when you do, it's your responsibility to have their permission where it's needed, especially for private information or photos of living people.
Things you agree not to do
Do not use the app to store or share anything unlawful, to infringe someone else's rights, to upload harmful or malicious software, or to interfere with or try to break into the service.
Protecting It's My Life
Your memories and photos belong to you. The app itself, including its design, screens, wording, pictures and the code that runs it, belongs to me and is protected by copyright. To keep it that way, you agree not to:
- copy, reproduce, sell or share the app's code, design, screens, text or images, except for your own backup (see below);
- reverse engineer the app, or take it apart to see how it works;
- use automated tools, bots or scrapers to collect anything from the app or its website;
- use the app, or anything you learn from it, to design, build or train a competing product or service.
Your backup is yours to keep. A backup you make from Settings includes a copy of the app's viewer, so you can open your memories on your own computer. You may keep and use your backup, and share it with family and friends, for personal, non-commercial use, forever, whether or not you renew.
If you break these rules, I may suspend or close your account.
The AI features
The app's voice-to-text and writing-helper features use Google's AI service and work only from the audio or text you choose to give them. The writing helper's suggestions need your approval before they become part of your story — nothing is changed automatically. You're responsible for the content you choose to keep, including anything you edited from a suggestion.
Subscription and billing
It's My Life is offered as a yearly subscription of $24.99 per year, handled by Lemon Squeezy as the seller of record. You can cancel at any time, which stops any future billing; your access continues until the end of the paid period.
Refunds: payments are non-refundable, except where a refund is required by law or by Lemon Squeezy's policies.
When a paid or gift year ends: if it is not renewed, the account and everything in it is deleted 30 days after the end date. The app reminds you before the end. To keep your own copy, make a backup from a computer before then.
Gifts
You can buy a one-year gift subscription for someone else, at $24.99 per gift, as a one-time payment through Lemon Squeezy. Each gift comes with its own gift code, printed on a card you personalize. Unopened gift codes never expire. The gift year begins on the day the person opens their gift and lasts 12 months; it does not renew on its own. If they wish to continue afterward, they can choose to subscribe. Each code works once. Gift purchases are non-refundable, except where a refund is required by law or by Lemon Squeezy's policies; if a gift order is refunded, its unopened codes stop working.
Ending your account
You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from the Settings screen — it's permanent and cannot be undone. Deleting your account ends your subscription immediately. Remaining paid time is not refunded. I may suspend or end an account that breaks these Terms or is used for unlawful activity, and I may discontinue the app. If I ever have to close It's My Life, I'll give you reasonable advance notice.
The app is provided "as is"
I work hard to keep It's My Life reliable, but it's provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. I cannot guarantee it will always be available, error-free, or uninterrupted. Please keep your own copies of anything truly important to you.
Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, I will not be liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of (or inability to use) the app, including lost data or lost profits. If I'm found liable for anything, that liability won't exceed the amount you paid me in the 12 months before the claim.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Changes to these Terms
I may update these Terms from time to time. If I make meaningful changes, I'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the updated Terms.
